Hate the thought of wearing a heavy suit in the summer to a wedding, a graduation—or worst yet—the office? That’s basically why the linen suit was invented. There is no better way to do tailoring in the sticky, sweltering heat than with a suit made of linen, the ultimate warm-weather fabric.

Linen’s low thread count makes it intrinsically cooler than cotton, plus it’s just as stylish and versatile—just wear it as you normally would a suit for all casual, business casual or dressy occasions. To really keep things summery, you can even rock the look with a T-shirt or polo underneath rather than a button-up. Just make sure not to pair a linen suit with a linen shirt; that’s what we call too much of a good thing.

Linen is also practical, as it will get softer over time, (and is naturally hypoallergenic), so it’s relatively low-maintenance. And look for a linen suit where the jacket is partially lined and the trousers are unlined—these are both markers of good quality and superior comfort.

The one downside is that linen crumples easily, so either own that wrinkled look or go for a blend of linen with wool and silk.
